NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Elizabeth Kennedy Lawlor has been named resident vice president government relations for Norfolk Southern Corp. (NYSE: NSC). Headquartered in Montgomery, Ala., she will coordinate the company's government relations activities in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Lawlor joined Norfolk Southern in 2010 as manager government relations. Prior to joining NS, she was director of legislative affairs and manager of political affairs for the Business Council of Alabama for five years and chief of staff in the Alabama Legislature's Office of the House Majority Leader for four years.
She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Birmingham-Southern College and a master of public administration degree from Auburn University Montgomery. Lawlor's experience includes lobbying elected officials, providing legislative staff services for members of the Alabama and Georgia legislatures, directing political campaigns, working with PAC development and administration, and composing political and legislative communications.
Norfolk Southern's government relations department works with federal and state legislators and their staffs, local elected officials and leaders, executive branches, and independent government agencies to support the railroad's legislative, policy, and regulatory interests.
